Maddy Draws

I have been so impressed lately with the way Madeline has been drawing.  When she colors she stays in the lines, and now when she draws I can usually tell what it is she is drawing. Her favorites are hearts and people.  She loves to draw her family.  Last night she drew mom, dad, herself (and she said she was painting her nails in the picture), grandma, Uncle Jeff, and Aunt Cathy.  I think Sophie might have been in there too.

Oktoberfest 2015

Patrick had to help serve beer at Oktoberfest with his bank again this year, so Madeline and I headed down to explore while daddy worked.

My little animal lover enjoyed watching the ponies.IMG_9398

Maddy and I shared some ice cream and people watched for a bit.

We found R2D2.

Back to the ponies.

Finally, it was her chance to ride the pony.  IMG_9403

She LOVEd it.  She kept making happy little squeals and saying “yea.”  The worker that was walking in front of us kept saying how much fun she sounded like she was having.  I think we should start saving up for a pony now.

And Maddy got a balloon.  She was so excited to get her own balloon.IMG_9408

Just Another Day at the Zoo

A beautiful day calls for a trip to the zoo.

Why, hello there Mr. Polar Bear.

This time we went with our friends Megan and Dan and their little girl, Phoebe.   It was fun for Madeline to have a little friend there with her.

I’ve mentioned before how we find signs of Joshua on significant or special days.  While looking at the New Guinea Singing Dog, Patrick and I spotted this cardinal.  We both just looked at each other, we knew it was our little boy just saying hi. DSC04134

Of course, no trip to the zoo is complete with out a visit to our favorite penguins.  Madeline just smiles, cheers, and does a little happy dance every time she sees them.DSC04136

I just love watching the joy on her face.

They are just so cute.

She spotted me.  I love her little smile.

We let her walk around most of the day.  She was worn out.

They look cute and cuddly, but apparently are some of the fiercest of all the cats. DSC04194 DSC04197 DSC04198 IMG_9333

We bought her a stuffed penguin.  She is in love.  She keeps walking around kissing its head.  IMG_9334

A Day at the Farmstead

We spent the day at Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead.  DSC04076

We thought it was time Madeline started school.

Madeline LOVES animals, so she was excited to get to see some new ones up close.

Daddy showing Maddy the baby goats.

She really wanted to pet one.

Madeline found it absolutely hilarious that the goats were drinking from a bottle.  She wouldn’t hold the bottle herself though.  DSC04100 DSC04103

Hehehe – look at him just standing there.

Madeline even got to drive a little tractor (with a little help from mom).DSC04113

This is such a fun little place and it’s Free Monday – Thursday and only $2/person on the weekends.  I’m sure that this was just the first of many visits to come.

Patrick Turns 30 – and a Royals Game

Patrick celebrated a big birthday this year.IMG_9325

We celebrated the best way we know how, at the Royals game.IMG_9327

Our little Royals fan made fast friends with those sitting around us.

She preferred to watch the people instead of the game.

Let’s go Royals!  She loved to clap and give high fives whenever everyone was cheering. We will turn her into a big Royals baseball fan.

She felt like a big kid getting to sit in her own seat for part of the game since the people sitting next to us didn’t stay for the whole game.DSC04056

Unfortunately, they didn’t manage a win for Patrick’s birthday, but we still enjoyed our night together at the old ballpark.  DSC04062

Under the Sea…Sorta

We took Madeline to the Sea Life aquarium at Crown Center.  If you haven’t been, save your money.  We got in for half price thanks to our Friends of the Zoo membership, but even at half price it was kind of a rip off.  It was small with not a lot of variety.

Of course it was still a fun day with Madeline, it always is.  DSC03939

Hi, Fishy!

Look at all these fish, mom.

They did have a cute little Octonauts room.  Madeline had fun playing in the little Octopod.

I found Nemo!

Look at that big stingray.

After the aquarium we walked around Crown Center a bit and had lunch at Fritz’s Railroad Restaurant.  Not the world’s greatest food, but a fun experience for the little ones to have a train deliver your food.  Madeline enjoyed playing with her conductor hat, but wasn’t a fan of actually wearing it.

Daily, Letters to Maddy, Madeline, Monthly Letters

16 Months

My Dear Madeline,

Today you are 16 months old. Crazy!

You are turning to such an awesome little kid. You are so much fun and we just love spending time with you.

You have really become quite the little momma to your baby doll. We can’t leave the house without it most days. You are quite sweet with her, pretending to feed her, rock her, wrap her up in a blanket, and put her to sleep, unless you are mad, then you are kind of a mean momma and baby tends to get thrown. I’m a little worried for our future grandchildren. ;)

The speed at which you are picking up things these days just amazes me. When you are finished with something you will throw your trash away. You know how to close cabinet doors and are always careful to watch your fingers. You know  where things belong in the house and will help put things away. When we read books I can ask you where something is and you will point to it on the page. You love to pretend and it is just so much fun to play together.

You now have four teeth up on top and still just the two on the bottom. You were kind of attached to your Wubbanub again for a bit while since those four upper teeth were all coming in at once, but you’ve since forgotten about it again. Unless you are super sleepy and fighting sleep. Then we let you have it and you are asleep within five minutes. I’m convinced it’s magic.

We went to the zoo with Grandma. You were excited to show her the penguins.

This summer has still been really hot. So there hasn’t been as much time spent outside as I had hoped for. When the temperature is near 100 and the heat index is 110 I just can’t keep you out there that long. It’s not fun when the swing and the slide can burn you. Instead we opted for ice cream this last weekend to celebrate you turning 16 months old. You were happy about that decision.

Sweet girl, you are such a joy in our lives.  There were so many days where we weren’t sure if our hearts would ever feel joy again after we lost your brother. Oh, sweet darling, how you have filled our hearts with more joy and love than we ever thought possible. You are a light not just in our lives, but everywhere we go. God knew exactly what He was doing when He gave us you. We are so proud of you.

Love Always and Forever,

Your Momma
